Nasivikoso Village Trip April 2014

Pictures from our trip to the village of Nasivikoso
3 hours on a dirt road into the interior of Fiji (Vitilevu)
April 24, 2014

We drove most of the way through think green folliage.

It seems we found Adam and Eve's fig leaves!

We were told this bridge was washed out, but David had to chance it anyway!
Glad the road crew was ahead of us!

Took this picture to show the woven walls
on this little house we passed by.

The village welcoming committee!
They lined up to have their picture taken!

As soon as we took their picture, they striped and dove into the pond-came up on a rock
and gave us a thumbs-up to have their picture taken again!  We just pretended-
We didn't want to take pictures of their bare little bodies!

These boys entertained themselves by going "pony skiing"!
They hung on to the rope while the pony pulled them through the water!

This little guy followed us around to have his picture taken.
His Grandpa is the church unit leader so we were invited to their home.

This is their home outside-
inside below....

We sat on the floor while they sang church songs in Fijian to us!
The little boy in the corner sang
"I want to Be A Missionary Now"!

This lady was cutting Kasava root for dinner.
They eat it like potatoes.

Inside the Village Church-
 outside the church below.....

Happy Missionaries! (Elders Roberts and Tukia)
We brought them an ironing board, a mop and a water filter!
Inside the missionary flat. This is their refrigerator!
(Ice chest that will work with the solor power on their roof)
Elder Terry explaining about the water filter
Elder and Sister Decker in the missionary's kitchen/laundry room.
The buckets are their clothes washer!

Getting their picture taken is a real treat for these kids!

This is the village farm.
It is way down from the road (it looks level in the pic)

The Village is the "Real"  Fiji - such a contrast to the paradise at the Warwick Resort!
We stopped here on the way home.  This is where we stayed 15 years ago when
we came to pick up Nathan from his mission.

We'll be back!

Easter week 2014

Colo-I-Suva Forest Park
A fun P-Day afternoon outing!

We drove through the village of Wailoku just on our way back
from the park.  I think this is the biggest pig
I have ever seen in a very small cage!

This a typical village "Shopping Center"!

Delivering bikes to the elders serving in the village of Bau/
Elder Painter and Elder Nuku
All set up for FHE!

Sister Decker and her Watermelon Bunny!

The Watlings, from England, serve in the temple presidency.
She made ALL the fancy desserts for FHE!

David drives right onto the boat to take packages to be
shipped to the missionaries serving on other islands.

Elders on the Island of Rotuma.
The boat goes only once a month!

The resort at the

The boat ride to Moon Reef
to see the Spinning Dolphins.
We saw a lot of dolphins but no spinning!
We were told they don't spin much on a cloudy day!

 Off to snorkel!
Beautiful clear water on an amazing reef,

Lunch is prepared in the lovo.
(outdoor oven)

 Lunch entertainment!
Notice the pine trees in the back ground.

 Typical Fijian menu

with chicken, fish, spinach, and oysters!

Coconut water.  I didn't actually taste it
but it looked pretty!

David eating coconut right out of the shell!

Beautiful chapel on the top of a hill in
Korovou. It was built with the hope of
"If you build it they will come"

This family lived right by the church.  She said
they were the care takers of the chapel.
The baby was scared when he saw our blonde hair
and started to cry!  Probably never seen a blonde before!

This one's for Tiffany and Raquel-
Cute kitty sleeping in their window !

This is the chapel we attend on Sunday.
Nasinu 2nd Ward.
This was Sister Ongasell's last Sunday

We are liking the Bridgestone tires.
They take the potholes pretty good!

Fijians love color!
